Is your cat suddenly scratching like a madman? Are there tiny black specks or flea dirt in their fur? Oh my God! It seems that fleas have invaded your cat’s personal space! However, fear not for these irritating bloodsuckers are no match for your anti-flea techniques. Here’s what you should do:
Begin with a relaxing bath using a mild flea shampoo approved by the vet. This will kill many adult fleas and wash away any remaining flea dirt. Make sure that bathing is a pleasurable experience by giving them nice words and treats – this way your kitty will adore you!
Once the bath is complete, get yourself equipped with a fine-toothed flea comb. Thoroughly run it through your cat’s hair ensuring that you concentrate on such spots as neck, belly, and base of the tail where fleas particularly like to hide themselves. You catch the fleas by dipping the comb after each stroke into a bowl filled with soapy water.
Fleas do not just live on your cat but also reside within your home! For instance, bedding, blankets and toys should be washed using hot water while carpets, floors and furniture must be vacuum cleaned often paying attention to areas favored for napping by your pet. Besides, emptying out the vacuum bag/canister straightaway will prevent fleas from getting away.
In the war against fleas, your vet is your comrade. He or she can suggest to your various options that can help best in dealing with flea infestation on a cat such as spot-on treatments, tablets to be taken orally and flea collars. Always adhere strictly to their prescriptions.
Some natural solutions like diatomaceous earth or essential oils may repel fleas but be cautious enough as well as consulting a vet before using them. Some of the natural methods cannot be safe for cats.
Once you have won this war, do not let them come back! Keep up a routine flea treatment plan suggested by your veterinarian. Remember to vacuum and frequently clean your cat’s bedding regularly. You could also spray some preventive medicine around your house against fleas through flea spray.
Fleas can spread diseases and cause bad itching for your cat. Don’t wait to treat them. The faster you address the problem, the sooner your furry friend will return to their previous happy self which is free from any itch.
Did you know fleas can leap as high as 150 times their own body size? That’s like a person jumping off a ten-floor building! Help your cat bounce with happiness instead of suffering with itchy pain.
Remember: Be patient and use the right instruments, and before longing those fleas will be gone, and your cat will be comfortable again.
